Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 1 September 2016: The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, is following the evolving socio-political situation over the last few months in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with great concern. Protests have taken place in some regions following disputes over the allocation of farmland for development.

The socio-political situation in Ethiopia has led to a number of reported deaths, temporary disruptions of public and private businesses, as well as occasional interruption of telecommunication services. Dr Dlamini Zuma expresses her condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives, and also wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.

The Chairperson of the Commission calls for a high level of restraint as well as for calm to reign. She encourages dialogue among all stakeholders in Ethiopia, in order to find peaceful and lasting solutions to the social, political and economic issues motivating the protests.

The AU Commission Chairperson reiterates the AU’s support for the respect of the rule of law, and peaceful demonstrations which are critical tenets in the upholding principles and culture democracy.

  1. Oh, please forget the AU! It is a powerless, totally fake, and handicapped bulshit. Sometime ago, the Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga described it very well. During the latest summit of the “African” “Union,” the ruling party was killing the Oromo people at a level of genocide, and what did the summit say about it? Nothing! Not a single word! The genocide has been carried out ever since, and has scaled up its scope. Did the AU do or say anything about it? No, nothing!!!! Will it be able to do anything about it, if it wanted or meant to? Absolutely NO! It is rather a puppet construction erected to defend the butcher dictators, and it serves absolutely no good of the African people! Maybe this appraisal can’t be made in the case of the earlier OUA. But the current piece that calls itself “African Union” is neither African nor a Union; it is some I-don’t-know-what, or more accurately: a good-for-nothing! An empty vessel!!! They would do us infinitely better if they spare us from inhaling their offensive breathes by keeping their mouths shut!!!
