Genzebe Dibaba further cemented her reputation as one of the best indoor distance runners ever by running 14:18.86 to shatter the 5000-meter world indoor record on Thursday.
At the XL Galan meet in Stockholm, Sweden, Dibaba took more than 5 seconds off the previous record of14:24.37, held by fellow Ethiopian Meseret Defar.
Dibaba broke the mark despite a lack of competition. The second finisher, Birtukan Fente, ran15:22.56, or almost two laps behind Dibaba on the 200-meter track.
Dibaba set three world indoor records in 15 days during the 2014 indoor season. On February 1, she ran3:55.17 for 1500 meters. Five days later, she ran 8:16.66 for 3000 meters. On February 15, she ran9:00.48 for 2 miles. All of Dibaba’s indoor personal bests are faster than her outdoor PRs.
Last year, Dibaba was also the world indoor champion at 3000 meters.
