Hong Kong firm signs MoU to manage Ethiopian industrial park

ADDIS ABABA, July 10 (Xinhua) — Hong Kong firm Hop Lun Company (HLH) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ethiopian officials to manage Bahir Dar Industrial Park (BIP) located in the northern part of Ethiopia.

The MoU agreement was signed between representatives of Hop Lun Company and the Ethiopian Investment Commission in Bahir Dar city, located 552 km north of Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa.

BIP, which is in the final stage of commissioning, was constructed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), and when at full capacity, is expected to create employment opportunities for about 10,000 Ethiopians.

Bahir Dar Industrial Park is one of about a dozen textile and garment sector dedicated industrial parks Ethiopia is constructing to meet its manufacturing ambitions.

With Ethiopia attracting large-scale investment in the export-oriented manufacturing sector, especially from Chinese firms, the country sees improving the efficiency and speed of the logistics sector as key to meeting national manufacturing revenue goals.

Ethiopia plans to have 30 industrial parks by 2025, as part of its efforts to make the country a light manufacturing hub and lower-middle-income economy in the same period.

  1. Khat addiction had broken families apart and made foreigners takeover in Ethiopia while khat and sugar businesses lobby for khat addiction in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia built so many sugar factories because when the khat leaf is chewed without a sweetener it tastes so nasty. If khat consumption was outlawed or better yet if Ethiopian people simply beat their khat addictions , the sugar consumption in Ethiopia would go down by more than two thirds.

Each hardcore khat addicted person in Ethiopia is estimated to use half a kilo of sugar or use five liters of sweet soda beverages each time the person chews khat , since sugar is the only a vital ingredient used to sweeten the nasty taste of the khat leaf. Thus making the khat business and the sugar business become intertwined. For sugar business in Ethiopia to succeed it relies on the khat consumption within Ethiopia.

Currently the Ethiopian government is finalizing it’s plan to sell all sugar farm lands and sugar factories to land grabbers foreign investors , EPRDF expects to generate over two hundred Billions of Birrs from the sales of sugar farm lands and sugar factories to investor land grabbers just within the year 2019 .

  2. News of industry coming to town? You kiddin me? That is the best sounding music to my ears just like the great Miles Davis and Dexter Gordon hitting every right note I like to hear!!!That old country needs to be turned upside down industrially to a level where it is rendered unrecognizable!!! It shows the growing confidence by industrial investors about the ability of our people. Industry and industrious people go along very well. They melt into each other so seamlessly and produce a society that will not be an easy prey for bigots and despots. Despots will never be able to rule he old fashioned way just because industrialization fundamentally changes citizen’s psyche and makes them to be so sophisticated to look thru every toxic diatribes bigots and despots throw at them. It ain’t gonna be easy to rule over them the ‘daddy’s’ way!!!
