The prominent Ethiopian human rights activist and scholar, Professor Mesfin Woldemariam, is to receive a lifetime achievement award from an Ethiopian organisation in Australia, Democracy for Ethiopia Support Group. He is expected to arrive in Melbourne today. The Group based in Australia also extended the invitation to the Professor to also hold discussion with Ethiopians located in various cities of Australia. The award is for Mesfin’s selfless lifetime contribution for the all-rounded peace and stability of Ethiopia and its people.
Accordingly, he is scheduled to speak to Ethiopians in Melbourne on October 19, 2014, Sydney on October 26 and Brisbane on a date yet to be disclosed.
The author of several books on human rights, geography, history and development, Professor Mesfin has also been one of the founders of the Ethiopian human rights council and adviser for several opposition groups including one of the strongest and historic parties, Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD) of the 2005 election.
