When activism goes awry

By Yilma

Jawar and his cliques are utterly unscrupulous. It is perplexing for any sane person even to know what their interest is. Responsible citizens are appeasing to narrow any differences we may have as a nation, but extremist activists keep digging for more differences.

Are they really Oromo activists or enemies? For me they are the latter. How can it be activism when you are toiling to destabilize the Oromos? How can it be activism when you work day and night to breakdown the norm of a society that existed for time immemorial?

This is really insanity. Now they have made the playing card language. It is really baffling. What is their problem at all regarding language? Is it restricting the use of the Amharic language or expanding the use of Afan- Oromo? If it is the former it is totally unlikely to succeed and trying to do it, is inexplicably bullshit, so to speak. So far, I haven’t heard from anybody opposing Afan-Oromo from becoming the national language. People are saying why they don’t move to that end, even if they have a question on the alphabets.

Amharic by chance has become the language that stitches us as a nation (The Lingua Franca of Ethiopia). What kind of sickness is this? I mean thinking of restricting Amharic so as to foster Afan-Oromo. I think that it is a critical sickness that needs a professional psychiatric to examine. Is it because it is believed to be disseminated by Menelik II? Long before him Amharic was the national language of the country. When he was expanding his territory, Menelik II was building a nation. There should have been a communication with various tribes. He had to communicate with them and they also needed to communicate among themselves. So, what chance could he have except using Amharic? was that wrong, or right? Possible to debate. But it just happened; therefore, it is insane to begrudge Amharic for the status it gained by chance.

Who are these people to decide on the fate of the poor Oromo peasants’ kids? Did really the Oromos make them their representative? Most of these renegades live in the West or teach their kids in the West, therefore, their kids are going to Western schools acquiring several languages. Ok because of, their animosity to the Amharic language, they may not teach them Amharic and the kids as long as they make their living there, they may not need the Amharic language that much. But why should a poor Oromo peasant kid be forfeited his chance of learning Amharic? Doing so, won’t hurt him at all, rather it helps him expand his opportunity to communicate and easily get a job should he leave his environment in search of jobs in other parts of Ethiopia.

Like many, I am of the opinion that Afan-Oromo can be additional language of Ethiopia; however, I don’t think that the alphabets of Afan-Oromo should be Latin.  From the very beginning those who decide to use Latin are wrong. This is the problem with extremism, because extremists are divisive always hunting for something that may set people apart.

Before they start speaking of making Afan-Oromo a national language, these extremist activists need to restrain from destructing the norm of the society.  To construct the Oromo culture, language, they don’t need to obliterate the already established culture. For instance, they want Afan-Oromo to be the national language. Like I said, that is ok for many Ethiopian nationalists, but in the process if they ask Latin to be the alphabet, won’t it involve us in to unnecessary controversy? To begin with, their rationale behind their activism for the Oromo language is the imposition of the Amharic language. Therefore, if they insist on making Latin the Afan- Oromo alphabet, in a way they are imposing their interest on others; because, Ethiopians believe, including the Oromos whom they claim to represent, they have their own alphabet for which they are proud of. If Oromo activists aspire Afan-Oromo to become Ethiopian national language, the way to do so, I would say, is in a friendly manner.   When you try to disseminate it peacefully, creating conducive atmosphere, making yourself friendly, you don’t even need to push it as people start developing love. Because of that, they make attempt to learn the language by themselves. For instance, at the beginning of Prime Minister Abyi Ahmed ascendency, Ethiopians were sanguine except the extremist Oromos. Had these extremists left all the job for him and had he kept his promises, this issue wouldn’t have been a matter of controversy. He talks about unity; they strive for division. They poured down cold water on everyone’s hope.

Put aside your divisiveness, then you don’t need to fulminate against others to disseminate Oromo culture, language. All your efforts are getting clearer now. It is not only in your last week rant in relation with the new education policy, that your wanton interest is debunked. You have sent your messengers even to the Ethiopian orthodox church. But this your move is very dangerous as it may be regarded as crossing the red line. Launching attack on the orthodox church and Amharic language are always heinous.  It is the means the Italians used for nothing but just to destroy the country. Is that what you want? If that is what you want, you earn nothing. The other day there were these two orthodox church priests appeared in the extremist OMN media declaring the establishment of Oromo orthodox church. I would say those people were apostates, not priests. To justify their devious cause, they were citing from the Holy Bible. If they are really spiritual people, what is the need to involve in politics? For years congregates were using the church in all the places they were referring to. They claimed that congregates are fleeing away, because of the language. I have doubts. The orthodox church is losing its congregates everywhere not only in Oromia. To prove their claim, they need to come up with a research. If it is not an attempt to divide, why do they need to dub it Oromia Orthodox Church? All the justifications they were presenting were lame excuses. Many Islamic countries have their own national language, but they use Arabic for the sake of Islam. Does that mean Arabic is imposed upon them? Not at all. For instance, the Islamic African country, Chad has in its curriculum Arabic and because of that many Chadians speak Arabic. Why are Chadians doing this? Is it because they aspire to become Arabs? It is the devotion they have for their religion.

Therefore, should Oromo activists need to prosper their region, they should strive to stabilize the political condition of Ethiopia. They shouldn’t necessarily focus on differences all the time. As a nation, we may have some differences, but we also have a lot of similarities. Always focusing only on our differences has no use except entangling the relationship we have.

  1. Abiy was just talking bad about TPLF to lure diaspora activists such as ESAT , TAMAGNE and so on , to quiet them from making noise globally since there is no other way but to accept Oromos mighty justice for Abyssinians. We Oromos are in power and we Oromos are freeing all of Abyssinia from this colonial language of Amharic.

We Oromos are not concerned about what this “Abyssinian” educators tell us . TPLF didn’t give power to the Abyssinian Amharic educators so they are jealous because Oromos got the power not Abyssiains as usual, TPLF gave power to us Oromos, as we intend to give power to our close partners the Ogaden Somali after Oromia declares independence from Ethiopia.

Abyssinian educators donot tell us anything about our calculation , we already know what we want or donot want and how we get it. The only ones going around in circles aimlessly with no calculated steps are Abyssinians colonialists timkhitegnas Amharic speakers not Oromos. We Oromos got no need for Amharic at all, we are going after centuries of colonialists systemic opression. Oromo justice doesn’t go back few decades only , it goes back further back.

We Oromos are immune to what the aimless confused bunch of chickens criticize us . The Oromo justice is in effect fully regardless what anyone says about our calculation.

We Oromos order what to do, we Oromos do not be told what to do by Abyssinians. Not anymore!!

The power is in our hands, all we Oromos need to do now is get ready for our independence from Ethiopia by developing our military and economy by any means including by taking back what the Abyssinians took from us , then we declare independence from Ethiopia , eventhough not one hundred percent guaranteed but by most probably passing the power to Somali Ogaden to rule Abyssinia.

We got the parliament after TPLF gave power to us, we finally are working into bringing our freedom by ending the Abyssinian colony.

We Oromos want and are making it a reality for Oromia to become completely separate country from Abyssinians, just same as Eritrea had been free from Ethiopia for the last 26 years.

All these other nonsense they talk about criticizing us donot deter our struggle from Oromia’s independence. We Oromos got our eyes set on the prize of free Oromia.Abyssinians are currently going in circles aimlessly knowing there is nowhere to hide from the mighty Oromo justice.

  2. Majority of Ethiopians had been constantly manipulated with Gondare antagonizers Amaras who put words in our mouths. No wonder the decorated hero, Asaminew Tsige did what he did to the antagonizers . Gondare Amaras are same as TPLF always twisting what we said to negative constantly antagonizing people. The Gondare got no other skill but to antagonize. Gondare loves to gossip and antagonize us, the only way left for us is to cut off communication with Gondares, that way Gondares cannot make up negative stories about what our children said or didn’t say. We are tired of being antagonized day in and day out always having to prove our innocence to the professional antagonizers who put words in our mouth.

  3. Ethiopian has been a loans of freedom and patriots, what ever selfish people would do just to clinck to power with their deception and what ever steps you take including declaring your dreamed independent state you will not be at peace while you are forcing your agenda on others people’s throats. The history of Belay Zeleke and Abdissa Aga can tell you a lot how people live their country called Ethiopian. You are just trying to take the lion by tails and playing with fire. Patriots always come to save the people and the country hodams always live at expense of patriots from the confort of their homes by manipulating people’s minds. The worst enemies of the Ethiopian people are it’s aggressors likr in the past Italy and Egypt and today’s forces trying to disgragate the country just to have their wish for power to come reality destroying all social fabric that existed for very long time.

A little regarding about Abddisa Aga for French Wikipedia

Abdissa was born in the Wellega Province of the Ethiopian Empire around 1920. When he was about twelve, his brother was murdered by his father. Nevertheless, he defends himself and goes to the capital Addis Ababa to plead his case. The call is not heard and his father has been executed. Around the age of fourteen, Abdissa joined the Ethiopian army and took part in the resistance against the Italian occupation that began in 1936. The fascist troops managed to capture her and send her to a camp in Sicily where he met and befriended a YugoslavCaptain Julio. His first major operation is done in coordination with his friend and twelve other prisoners. They manage to escape the camp and return a few days later to free the other captives. The operation is a success and Abdissa managed to gather a small group of resistance fighters in Italy. Thanks to the ammunition and weapons found in the camp, he will lead the liberation of several other camps as well as the burglary of banks and government warehouses.

The importance of Abdissa’s group ended up worrying the Italian officials who decided to deal seriously with the problems. Unable to capture him, they seek to negotiate but the fascist government envoy is assassinated by Abdissa, cutting hope for a peaceful resolution. Following the outbreak of the Second World War , the Allies began to materially support the Resistance group. Abdissa, appointed Major, was placed at the head of the battalion as the leader of all the Resistance except the Yugoslavs, under the authority of Captain Julio. Abdissa continues his operations in Italy and leads his battalion to Romewhere he enters by jeep with the floating Ethiopian flag. Subsequently, the Allied army arrived in the Italian capital, Abdissa was charged by the British to conduct operations on German territory. Once again, when he entered the capital, Berlin , he flaunted the flag of his homeland.

At the end of the war, the British, Canadians and Americans offered to Abdissa to join their ranks by promising him high positions. He refused all these offers arguing that his country comes first and that he plans to review the Negusse Negest Haile Selassie . Irritated, the Allies decide to condemn him for acts of plunder in Italy. A British general, surprised by the prison sentence, manages to have it commuted to a fine partly paid by Abdissa.

Back in Ethiopia, Abdissa Aga was greeted by Haile Selassie himself. The latter sends him to Ras Abebe Aregai , Minister of Defense, to offer him a job. However, other resistance fighters feared Abdissa’s influence and preferred to send him to the Holeta military academy as a cadet. He is also sent to the Ogaden to fight against local insurrections. It was only towards the end of his reign that Haile Selassie promoted Abdissa to the rank of colonel and made him one of his bodyguards.
Abdissa dies a few years after the 1974 revolution that overthrew the imperial regime.

  4. The delusional thinking of the so called “we Ethiopians”, the train is traveling while your delusional self continue to say oh Ethiopia has god, bla bla bla. Knock, it shall be opened, that is is in the bible! Menilik/H/selassie didn’t sit around cray for 27 years at least. Put your act where your mouth is! You have been duped by Aby whether you like it or not. There is plan and they are implementing it. This is of course the spirit behind Ethiopia. Yes, Ethiopia is in spirit but no action at all. You are being challenged, dare to fight, as tplf has been saying. I do admire tplf for this. The more they push, the more you beg, in active is sign of weakness. They are now for sure like it or not everyone will have autonomy and eventually to indpendence. The only thing is, they don’t want it bloody like Yougoslavia but amicable separation. At least you Ethiopian sayers, at least , say it is is find but without bloody. Do not make mistake this is the war against Ethiopia itself and not necessary against those organizing ethnically. In other words, Amara will have its state as long as it doesn’t meddle in Ethiopia state. The Oromo Ethiopians are also in danger and have not option. The only option is to bring back the protest that Aby hijacked. it has nothing to do with him being good/bad. in fact, i would rather have as now tplf back than this passive agressive leader. The train is still moving and makes absolutely no change what Aby says or does.
